Captain Aysha Alhameli, appointed as the Director General of the Air Accident Investigation Sector (ADG-AAIS) in April 2021, has made significant strides in positioning the AAIS as a globally recognized organization. Under her leadership, she has introduced strategies to enhance the authority’s standing within the global aviation community.
Alhameli made history at 16 by becoming the first female pilot in the UAE in 1998. Her groundbreaking achievements continued as she became the youngest-ever Permanent Representative to the ICAO Council, a position she held from 2009 to 2020. During her tenure at ICAO, she led numerous panels, committees, and task forces, contributing to the development and refinement of international aviation strategies.
Previously, Alhameli established the Air Transport Department, leading more than 80 bilateral and multilateral agreements over three years. Her career at the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) began as a Senior Officer in Air Accidents and Regulations.
Her contributions to global air transport have earned her numerous accolades, including an Honorary Doctorate from Agean University (Greece), an Air and Space Law Postgraduate Certificate from McGill University (Canada), and a Master’s in Air Transport Management from City University (London). She also holds a Bachelor’s in Social and Behavioral Sciences from Zayed University (UAE), along with various aviation certifications, including CPL and ATPL from the UAE and Jordan.
