Rania A. Al-Mashat has been an influential figure in Egypt’s government since 2018, serving as the Minister of Planning, Economic Development & International Cooperation. Previously, she held the positions of Minister of International Cooperation and Minister of Tourism, showcasing her diverse expertise in economic development and international relations.
With a robust background in economics, Rania has contributed significantly to Egypt’s economic reforms and financial sector modernization. Before her ministerial roles, she worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington, DC, as an Advisor to the Chief Economist and Senior Economist. Rania also played a pivotal role at the Central Bank of Egypt, where she was instrumental in modernizing Egypt’s monetary policy and guiding the adoption of an inflation-targeting regime—an essential aspect of the banking sector reforms initiated in 2004.
In addition to her government service, Rania has served on various influential boards, including the Egyptian Stock Exchange, the Arab International Bank, and the Arab Investment Bank, among others. As Minister of International Cooperation, she represents Egypt in key international financial institutions, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank, and the New Development Bank.
