Two Fresno County women were found dead in their home after someone called in a welfare check, police said.
On Thursday morning, officers from the Kerman Police Department went to a residence on West Kearney Boulevard and South Del Norte Avenue in Kerman, a town about 16 miles west of Fresno. When they knocked on the door, no one responded, so officers forced their way inside. They discovered the bodies of Linda Thrash, 74, and her niece Kandi Pombo, 57, who both lived in the home. The women both had wounds “consistent with a homicide,” the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Sheriff’s deputies believe the women were “specifically targeted.” “This is not a random act,” the department said. No persons of interest or suspects have been named in the case.
Pombo’s sister Gwyn Runner told KFSN that the family is devastated by the news. Runner said Pombo had leukemia at the time of her death.
“You know, she was always there for all of us, and we’re going to miss her very much,” Runner told the TV station.
