In a society where dance was once considered taboo for women, Kinetico Dance Company emerged as a trailblazing force in Saudi Arabia, becoming the nation’s first female-owned dance company. Over the past 14 years, the company has grown into a beloved fixture in Riyadh, fostering a sense of community and professionalism that draws hundreds of new students each year.Aya Albakoush, the managing partner, has been intimately connected to Kinetico from an early age, with her mother being one of the founders. She began her dance journey at the age of 11 and later transitioned to her current role behind the scenes. Alongside choreographer and dancer Maha Alblehed, and other passionate Saudi women such as Reem Alblehed and Sarah Albehaijan, Albakoush helps steer the company to new heights.Kinetico Dance Company hosts a full season of dance training, culminating in an annual show that showcases a variety of dance styles, including hip-hop, contemporary, gymnastics, and musical theater. The academy caters to students aged four to 26, attracting approximately 600 newcomers annually.While the journey of Kinetico has been filled with artistic triumphs, it hasn’t been without its challenges, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The outbreak led to the heartbreaking cancellation of their annual show, leaving young dancers devastated as they were unable to perform in front of their families. However, the company has since overcome these obstacles, emerging stronger and more determined to create art that resonates globally.Kinetico Dance Company’s impact extends beyond the dance floor; it has fostered a sense of belonging and camaraderie among its members. For Enas Althenayan, whose daughters Leen and Joud Alshaalan are part of the academy, Kinetico feels like a second home. The academy instilled discipline in the girls and boosted their confidence to perform on stage, imparting invaluable life lessons along the way.The success of Kinetico can also be attributed to the vibrant atmosphere and dedicated staff. Diana Musat, a mother of one of the students attending gymnastics and dance classes, commends the academy’s positive energy and attentive instructors.As Kinetico Dance Company has flourished, so have its features and facilities. The academy now boasts five dance studios, relaxation areas, and sauna rooms, reflecting the vision of co-founder Maha Alblehed, an interior designer before joining the dance company.
