Empowering Artistry: The Vision and Journey Behind Marushika

Fashion and luxury craftsmanship bring together tradition and modernity, creating pieces that reflect both cultural heritage and contemporary aesthetics. High-end fashion brands often incorporate intricate embroidery, fine materials, and artistic detailing to produce garments that go beyond clothing and become expressions of art.

The luxury industry values exclusivity, quality, and personal expression. Designers in this space work with skilled artisans, blending time-honored techniques with innovative approaches to create unique collections. Hand embroidery, Swarovski embellishments, and premium fabrics are some of the elements that define this sector, ensuring that each piece carries a sense of refinement and individuality.

Beyond clothing, the fashion world extends into curated shopping experiences, where personal styling and bespoke services add to the exclusivity. Boutique settings provide clients with tailored consultations, making the process of selecting garments as intentional as the craftsmanship behind them.

The Inspiration Behind MARUSHIKA and the Journey of a Woman Entrepreneur

Building a fashion brand requires vision, dedication, and a deep connection to artistry. For many designers, the journey begins with a personal passion that evolves into a mission to create something unique. Manisha’s path into the luxury fashion industry was shaped by her love for heritage, craftsmanship, and design. She shares how her early influences and experiences led to the creation of her brand and how being a woman entrepreneur has shaped her perspective:

“Marushika was born out of my deep passion for art, heritage, and craftsmanship, paired with a strong desire to create something meaningful in the world of fashion. From a young age, I was surrounded by women who were skilled in various forms of weaving and artistic expression, which sparked my initial interest. My love for design led me to study Textile Design, and from there, I honed my skills through purposeful roles in retail. Over time, as my family and I relocated to different places, I gained diverse experiences that ultimately shaped the vision for Marushika. It took me three years to develop the brand, transforming it from a concept on paper into a living, breathing entity. I wanted to create a brand that beautifully blends folklore art with modern design, offering something fresh and meaningful to our discerning customers.

When we asked Manisha about challenges and personal growth she has experienced as a woman entrepreneur in the fashion industry, she highlighted the resilience, adaptation, and commitment required to navigate the industry while staying true to her vision.

As a woman entrepreneur, my journey has been one of resilience, growth, and adaptation. Navigating the complexities of the fashion industry has not been easy, but each challenge has only strengthened my commitment to my vision. I firmly believe that fashion should act as a bridge between tradition and innovation, and that women—whether as designers, artisans, or consumers—should feel empowered by the work we do.

Empowering Artisans Through Collaboration and Recognition

Artisans play a vital role at Marushika and Manisha recognizes the importance of preserving their craft. She sees them not just as workers but as storytellers who carry forward an artistic legacy.

For me, artisans are at the heart of Marushika, they are not just contributors but storytellers and custodians of an artistic legacy. I work closely with them ensuring that both the art and artisans get their due respect and acknowledgement.

For Manisha, empowerment is about dignity, respect, and preserving artistry, giving artisans pride beyond commerce.

Challenges and Triumphs of a Woman in the Fashion Industry

Fashion is an exciting but demanding industry, and as a woman entrepreneur who is just starting out, I’ve faced my share of challenges, whether it is establishing credibility or balancing creativity with business strategy.” Manisha shared. She also shared about the difficulty of entering the fashion industry, where commercial trends often take precedence over artistic expression.

One of the biggest hurdles was breaking into a space that often prioritizes commercial trends over artistry. Staying true to my vision of blending heritage with contemporary fashion meant taking risks, but I’ve learned that authenticity resonates.

Overcoming these challenges has been about perseverance, surrounding myself with the right people, and trusting the value of what we’re creating. I’ve also learned that challenges are just stepping stones, each one teaches you something invaluable about yourself and your journey.

Staying Inspired and the Most Rewarding Moments of the Entrepreneurial Journey

Inspiration for her designs comes from a wide range of sources—stories, art, architecture, nature, and, importantly, the women who wear her creations. Her travels and exposure to diverse cultures have deepened her appreciation for global craftsmanship, leading her to find innovative ways to reinterpret traditional folk art. For her, innovation is about evolving heritage and making it accessible to modern women.

The most rewarding moments in her entrepreneurial journey have been both personal and impactful. Seeing her first collection, Idaya, come to life—from the intricate craftsmanship to women wearing the pieces with confidence—was incredibly fulfilling.

Another rewarding moment is whenever an artisan shares how their life has changed because of their work with us. Fashion is often seen as glamorous, but for me, it’s about impact, on the people who create it and those who wear it. Knowing that Marushika is making a difference, however small, is the most rewarding part of this journey.

Turning Passion into Business and Using Fashion as a Tool for Empowerment

Manisha gives a lot of emphasis on the importance of unwavering belief in one’s vision, while recognizing that passion alone isn’t enough. Turning a creative dream into a sustainable business requires a balance of artistry and strategy, including understanding finance, marketing, and supply chains. She encourages starting small, focusing on progress over perfection, and surrounding oneself with supportive people.

She views fashion as a powerful form of self-expression and empowerment. For artisans, it provides both financial and social empowerment while preserving their heritage. For the women who wear Marushika, the designs are meant to inspire strength, individuality, and confidence, connecting tradition with modernity. When done right, fashion becomes a powerful tool for empowerment.

Manisha’s journey in the luxury fashion industry highlights the fusion of tradition with modern design, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship, empowerment, and authenticity. Her brand, Marushika, not only celebrates the artistry of artisans but also empowers both creators and wearers through meaningful, high-quality fashion. Through resilience and vision, Manisha has built a label that values heritage while embracing innovation, creating a lasting impact on the industry and the people she works with.
